Minimum Qualifications
Engineer C

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.



Licenses or Certifications:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

Consulting Engineer

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus eight (8) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Notes to Applicants
Under nominal direction, this position is accountable for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments related to the City of Austin Engineering Standards and Specifications updates. This position plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems which have an important effect on major City programs or projects, such as leading the Office of the City Engineer sustainability initiatives and Best Management Practices (BMPs) implementations. This position serves as technical expert in a civil engineering area related to construction materials and right-of-way development and maintenance.

Salary Information:
Engineer C: $44.62 - $58.01
Consulting Engineer: $51.07 - $67.04

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • In-depth knowledge of construction material specifications and construction practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for addressing technical issues related to Right Of Way ( ROW ) infrastructure repair, ROW obstructions, specifications interpretation, and construction matters.
  • Experience in the design and construction of projects within and/or impacting the right-of-way.
  • Experience addressing inquiries from diverse stakeholders, including the public, designers, consultants, contractors, and other department personnel.
  • Provide engineering recommendations to customers (internal or external), including technical advice related to City standards and specifications as needed.
