General Statement of Duties

Performs entry-level professional engineering work in the field and in the office for the Inflow and Infiltration Section of the Operations Division of the Department of Public Utilities; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

Performs entry-level professional engineering work in the field and in the office for the Inflow and Infiltration Section of the Operations Division of the Department of Public Utilities; does related work as required.

The applicant should possess the following skills and abilities:

• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices as it relates to the assigned position and department; Ability to prepare and review plans, estimates and specifications.
• knowledge of common methods and practices used in engineering, inspection and construction of County infrastructure projects.
• Ability to make engineering calculations; knowledge of environmental impacts.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to multitask and effectively manage competing priorities.
• Good professional engineering judgment with ability to make sound decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a four (4) year degree in a relevant recognized field of engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program, and previous relevant professional experience in engineering preferred; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Additional Information

This position reports to DPU Operations located at 10401 Woodman Road.

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.

Requires possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

May require annual audio test or other job-related physical testing as required by assigned position or department.
