VDOT is seeking an individual who will assume a key role in conducting complex studies to address the requests for signage, pavement marking, and residential traffic management work efforts.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Conduct Traffic Engineering Studies related to signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, and other traffic control devices.
• Collect and analyze data and compile reports for study findings and recommendations.
• Provide support for construction and maintenance programs by preparing designs and sketches for work zones, signage, pavement markings, traffic control, detours, and other improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles and current practices, standards, and regulations.
• Extensive experience in conducting various traffic engineering studies.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
• Skill in utilizing standard office and traffic engineering software.
• Ability to lead and train others.
• Ability to develop solutions to complex traffic issues in assigned area.
• Skill in collecting and analyzing traffic data and developing recommendations.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and work in a fast-paced, urban environment.
• Valid driver's license

Additional Considerations

• Experience in technical writing with emphasis on traffic engineering.
• Proficiency in MicroStation and Microsoft Office products
• Experience working in a traffic engineering environment.
• A combination of training, experience or education in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or related field desired.
• Experience using traffic engineering software including CADD
• Training in traffic engineering.
