About Carvana...

At Carvana, we sell cars, but we're not salespeople. We saw a huge problem with how much it can suck to buy a car the traditional way, so we committed ourselves to tackling one of the largest, yet-to-be-disrupted markets in the world - the $1T per year U.S. car market (yes, that's $Trillion with a "T").

We are looking for people who are excited to thrive in an environment of impactful change. Team spirit is evident at Carvana and every day we let our passions and creativity foster innovation. We take big swings, set ambitious goals, and challenge each other to make data- and process-driven decisions in everything we do. If you are looking to join a company revolutionizing an industry then you will LOVE what Carvana has done for the car buying experience.

We've been changing the game since 2013, and we're not taking our foot off the gas now. Here are a few of our stories !

About the team and position

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our People Technology software and data teams. This is an opportunity for you to set a vision and strategy while establishing core fundamentals of an already high-performing and self-organized group.

People Technology is focused on finding new and better ways to approach the way that we work, by developing all new systems and services aimed at enabling our people. We are encouraged to challenge the status quo and openly debate for better outcomes. We have a bias of ownership and action with the belief that iteration is better than deliberation. We continuously focus on performance and process improvement opportunities, even when we are already killing it.

Above all, we focus on providing the best customer experience while having fun as a team!

What you'll be doing

You will work closely with other product leaders to define the vision, direction, and objectives for all projects in your track using the latest technologies. In this role, you can expect to...
  • Participate, end to end, in the product life cycle: requirements gathering, solution design, planning, development, testing, and implementation.
  • Energetically and deftly react to rapidly evolving business needs and requirements.
  • Find solutions to unexpected technical challenges and seek out opportunities to contribute to the meteoric growth of our business, enrich our culture, and improve the quality of our tools, code, and processes.
  • Be the ultimate "player-coach". You are very comfortable leading from the front on all matters technical and you boast the scar tissue to prove it from an impressive career of implementation success, personal growth, and skills development.
  • Understand that the talent on your team is the most important resource that you control.
  • Constantly look for ways to cultivate, direct, guide, and nurture the members of your team to help them attain personal goals while providing sustainable and significant business value.

What you should have
  • At least 5 years leading engineers and other technology professionals.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills; comfortable discussing projects with anyone from end users up to the executive company leadership.
  • Proven work history in software engineering working with a myriad of languages such as C#, JavaScript, React, and SQL.
  • A comprehensive understanding of software craftsmanship ideals - clean code principles, unit testing fundamentals, design pattern selection and application, architectural pattern selection, and application.
  • An understanding and experience in application security from the web service and web application perspective.
  • Experience working in and leading the charge in an Agile environment.
  • A good understanding of design patterns and N-Tier architecture.
  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field, or professional experience working with related technologies.
  • Carvana engineering team members work very closely with strong supporting teams and require great interpersonal skills including a positive attitude and sense of humor (read that last part twice, if necessary).

It would be great if you also had
  • Experience working in a cloud-based software development environment, preferably with Azure.
  • Understanding of DevOps best practices and principles.
  • Experience working in a hyper-growth environment.
  • Experience working with third-party engineering services.
  • Involvement in a fin-tech or e-commerce company.

What we'll offer in return
  • Full-Time Salary Position with a competitive salary.
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits.
  • 401K with company match.
  • A multitude of perks including student loan payments, discounts on vehicles, benefits for your pets, and much more.
  • A great wellness program to keep you healthy and happy both physically and mentally.
  • Access to opportunities to expand your skillset and share your knowledge with others across the organization.
