An exceptional opportunity awaits! The Street Transportation Department seeks an Engineering Manager to lead DCM's Design Section. IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of Construction Materials Engineering.
  • Proficient at preparing engaging reports, dynamic presentations, and insightful recommendations.
  • Proficient and well-rounded engineer with government experience in design, construction, and plan review.
  • Able to manage time and resources to ensure work is completed efficiently, with self-management and independent judgment.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others, relating well to people from varied backgrounds and situations.
  • Able to develop and manage a department section that requires a high degree of specialized knowledge in engineering based on the requirements of a Professional Registrant authorized by the Arizona Board of Technical Registration (AZBTR).
  • Able to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; using practical approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions for self and others.
  • Able to effectively interact with and coordinate activities across multiple engineering disciplines and/or other City departments/offices, consultants, contractors, utilities, and other outside agencies.

SALARY

Pay Range: $107,432 to $139,672 annually

Hiring Range: $107,432 to $133,307 annually.

Pay Range Explanation:
  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
  • The City contributes 9% of salary into 457/401(a) plans with no matching required. $4,200/annual car allowance and $1,440/annual cell phone allowance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in planning, organizing, and directing difficult and complex engineering projects while demonstrating progressively responsible experience in public administration and research, or construction management.
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, water resource management, economics, planning, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
  • Registration as an Architect, Landscape Architect. or Professional Engineer with proficiency in a relevant discipline at time of application is required.
    • Registration in Arizona must be obtained within the first year.

  • This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Experience with Title 34 (Procurement).
  • Experience with process improvement.
  • Experience with materials engineering.
  • Experience with client management.
  • Experience with the Design and Construction Industry.
  • Experience with project management principles and best practices.
  • Experience managing capital improvement program budgets at a managerial level.
  • Experience managing multiple design and/or construction contracts simultaneously.
