Job Description:

Perform diagnostic testing for preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and installation of substation power equipment such as circuit breakers, buses, transformers and portable substations. Interpret test results and, if required, initiate required corrective maintenance and perform substation maintenance repairs. Diagnostic tests include insulation power factor testing, circuit breaker timing and travel testing, transmission cable and generator stator Hi-pot testing.

Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, operational tests and installation of protective relay schemes, metering, remote control and data systems in substations. Interpret engineering documentation and technical specifications and assists in making field revisions to associated drawings and documentation. Assists in scheduled inspections, tests and calibration of protection equipment as well as in the verification of control and protective circuit diagrams.

Respond to system/equipment problems to determine operability or need for repairs.

Utilize of a wide range of general purpose and specialized electrical and/or electronic testing equipment and instrumentation.

Close out work orders electronically and maintain relay settings in settings database for compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation.

Is responsible for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance and verification in all substations.

Work includes job site reporting anywhere across the PECO service territory.

1) Work safely using proper work procedures and work practices.

2) Perform diagnostic testing of substation power equipment.

3) Interpret test results and assist Engineering with the trending of test data.

4) Perform work with Substation Maintenance crews in conjunction with maintenance and installations as required.

5) Complete required work management planning and work reporting tasks as required.

* POSITION WILL HAVE JOB SITE REPORTING LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE 5 COUNTY GREATER PHILADELPHIA AREA.

Minimum Requirements:

Two (2) year Degree/ education in an Electronic/ Electrical discipline and/or equivalent. Equivalent has been defined as

1. post-secondary education in Computer Science / Electronic Engineering or a related field and

2. an additional two (2) years of relevant work.

Valid Driver's license and ability to meet company driving standards

Regular access to an insured personal vehicle

Must be able to report to various work locations in the PECO service territory AND must be able to work shifts as needed

Knowledge of electrical theory and concepts (e.g. AC/DC electrical theory)

Knowledge of Transmission, Distribution and Industrial electrical power equipment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient in the use of computers and software applications (e.g. MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Project).

Must be able to respond to emergency situations (7 days a week, 24 hours a day).

Must receive a recommended test result on required EEI pre-employment testing

Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to use various hand tools and testing equipment, including a multimeter, perform tasks while following directions.

Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits.

Demonstrated ability to carry equipment weighing 60 lbs.

Demonstrated a bility to work at heights to forty (40) feet or more from ladders, aerial man lifts, bucket trucks, scaffolding or on top of transformers, and work in severe weather conditions. Including demonstrated ability to carry and climb ladder safely.

Ability to be certified in CPR and First Aid methods.

Employees in this classification are NERC and FERC qualified positions. As such, they will be required to comply with NERC and FERC standards and requirements and follow company procedures designed to meet these requirements. Employees in this classification are required to complete and maintain their NERC and FERC certifications annually.

Preferred:

Four (4) year degree in Electronic / Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology

Experience with protective relaying, and communication control systems

Knowledge of protective relay schemes with microprocessor and electromechanical relays for line, transformer, capacitor bank, and bus protection.

Knowledge of SCADA systems concepts and theory.

Knowledge of database structures and communications networks

Ability to read and write code/computer programing.

Knowledge of transformer voltage controller operation concepts and theory.

Ability to interpret engineering documentation and technical specifications.

Proficiency with maintenance management systems such as; Asset Suite and Cascade

Experienced with data testing equipment such as the Doble DUC and ASE Test Set.
