The Central Regional Division (CRD) provides engineering, design, and project development services to District Three (3) and District Six (6) in order to provide the central region of New Mexico with safe transportation services while implementing innovative design. The Central Regional Division also acts as a liaison between Districts, Local Entities, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), providing technical assistance to ensure local government project design plans can be constructed.

Under general supervision, this position performs difficult and complex technical assignments; provides mentoring and direction to engineering technicians engaged in sub-professional engineering work.

How does it get done?

This job assists in the administration of the Geographic Information System (GIS) program. Incumbents at this level perform work such as highly complex analysis and interpretation of data. Participants in the preparation of reports to be used by professional and managerial employees. May act as lead computer aided draft (CAD) technician to develop and maintain computer aided draft drafting standards and procedures. Prepares design drawings and drawing bid sets from engineering sketches, oral instructions, field measurements, historical records or maps. Review permits for compliance and provides recommendation to management. Performs customer interaction. May act as lead technician to develop and maintain electronic document management system standards procedures. May train lower-level Engineering Technician in overall duties and provide direction to lower incumbents.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

* Knowledge and experience in the use of AutoCAD/Civil3D
* Experience in highway, roadway and bridge design and plan development.
* The ability to read and interpret construction plans and contract documents.
* Microsoft and Excel knowledge.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of relevant experience. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical.

Reference check and Driver's License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting. Exposure to: Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Communication with the general public and public agencies on a frequent basis. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional statewide and out of state travel maybe required.
