Environmental Construction Inspector II

Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for coordinating with contractors, developers and builders to conduct routine Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan ( SWPPP ) inspections for properties under construction.
  • Must have the ability to develop positive working relationships with staff from Public Works, Development and Permits, and the VA Department of Environmental Quality ( DEQ ) to coordinate Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Ordinance and Virginia Stormwater Management Program enforcement.
  • Coordinates with City staff from Public Works and Development and Permits to accomplish goals, communicate information, and coordinate interdepartmental Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Ordinance enforcement.
  • Investigates citizen complaints into Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Violations.
  • Prepares and maintains database reports and records such as erosion and sediment control routine inspection forms and SWPPP inspections records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires Associate's degree, vocational technical degree, or any equivalent combination of education and experience in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this position requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards ; Certification as a Dual Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Inspector within 12 months of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
