Position Summary:
Responsible for creating, co-coordinating and implementing environmental, health and safety programs to meet internal requirements as well as compliance to government regulations. Maintains knowledge of current industry and regulatory trends and provides subject matter expertise to plant in this area. Develops long range plans and EHS processes to continuously improve plant environmental, health and safety.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Reviews Corporate and OSHA safety, fire safety, environmental, industrial hygiene and hazardous materials programs and implements to those standards at the site level. Reviews and audits the site programs for compliance.
• Complete EHS evaluations for new projects and equipment modifications.
• Investigate incidents and complaints of employees regarding safety, health and industrial hygiene, ergonomics, etc. and make recommendation(s) for improvements if appropriate.
• Develop and conduct safety training as needed (New Employee Management, LOTO, Confined Space, Electrical, machine guarding.)
• Manages the Industrial Hygiene (IH) monitoring plan and conducts (noise, air and Radio Frequency).
• Perform follow-up and assure closure of safety and health recommendations from various Corporate, self and outside audits, site inspections and hazard reports.
• Manages various EHS Programs, such as Contractor, Fire System, Ergonomic Programs and/or Radiation Safety Programs as assigned by Department Manager
• Creates and performs various safety and environmental inspections as needed
• Completes OSHA logs, environmental and hazardous material regulatory reporting.
• Develop and conduct Safety Leadership Training.
• Conduct periodic audits of Site Program.
• Act as Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Team Lead and provide support for various site safety committees.
• May be assigned supervisory responsibility for Safety team members.
• Follow up on inspection and hazard reporting programs findings.
• Serve as the EHS Manager's back up when manager is out, including support of staff activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
• Knowledge of EHS management systems.
• Understand various OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, DOT/IATA regulations.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Excellent speaking skills with ability to communicate with all levels of employees and present/facilitate training.
• Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Project management skills including organizing tasks to successfully complete projects within selected time frames.
• Strong computer literacy and application proficiency
Education and Experience:
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• A Bachelor's Degree is required. *
• *In lieu of an applicable educational degree, 10 or more relevant years of field experience will be considered.
• Five or more years of experience in both safety and/or environmental roles in a manufacturing or a similar environment is required (preferably pharmaceutical).
• Preferred CIH, CSP, CHMM or environmental certification.
• Experience leading successful teams preferred.
• Experience at a Voluntary Protection Program site is a plus.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
• Noise, Chemical exposures, Ability to work various shifts and weekends, Office and plant exposure, Work outside, Confined Space Entry.
• Lifting requirements of at least 25 lb. and infrequent lifting of 50lb.
• Ability to walk up and down stairs and stand for 1 to 2 hours at a time.
• Ability to climb ladders up to 20 feet in height.
• Confined Space Entry and ERT training related stresses.
• Ability to wear a respirator.
• Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
