LSC-Houston North Fairbanks is located at Highway 290 and West Little York Road, near the Sam Houston Tollway. The Fairbanks location provides a variety of services to students including advising, registration, counseling, and tutoring. Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Environmental Health & Life Safety (EHLS) Officer is responsible for inspecting, evaluating, and monitoring equipment, processes, and campus environments to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Lone Star College. This position will work closely with campus faculty, staff, and administration to implement LSC's environmental health and life safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable policies, codes, and regulations. In collaboration with the other members of the EHLS department and College-wide departments, the EHLS Officer will work to create and enhance a robust safety culture by providing technical support, consultation, awareness, and training to reduce risk and prevent hazards and injury to the LSC community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct and document visual inspections of learning and work environments for potential hazards including but not limited to classroom laboratories and areas of chemical storage
  • Assists with maintaining a campus/location chemical inventory
  • Conduct and document routine visual inspections on environmental health, fire and life safety systems, equipment, and devices
  • Facilitates and secures documentation from contractors of required fire safety code inspections in accordance applicable regulatory requirements
  • Facilitates and secures documentation from contractors of required inspections and testing of fume hoods, AEDs, and eye wash stations
  • Plan and conduct fire and tornado drills. Document drill results and required follow-up actions, reporting all findings to appropriate personnel
  • Support the Department of Emergency Preparedness and LSC Police Department in facilitation and documentation of other required drills and exercises
  • Records and maintains testing results, work order documentation, and repairs to include preventiveand corrective maintenance on environmental health, life, and fire safety equipment and systems
  • Monitor and document the completion of corrective action to address identified safety deficiencies
  • Collaborates with other departments to develop and deliver environmental health and life safety educational awareness and training programs
  • Participate in conducting and documenting safety audits to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and mitigate potential risks
  • Oversee the placement and setup of environmental health and life safety signage and equipment
  • Escort contractors and Fire Marshal representatives through LSC buildings in order tomaintain and/or inspect equipment
  • Assist responsible authorities with collecting and documenting information regarding accidents to identify and support in resolving any issue that may relate to unsafe environmental conditions and/or practices
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, long periods of standing, and considerable amounts of walking.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, phone, and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts to fulfill essential job functions
    • May be assigned to any or various LSC campuses
    • May work around chemical fumes, hazardous substances, electrical and mechanical hazards, noise, allergens, and dust
    • May be required to wear personal protective equipment and an LSC shirt (furnished)
    • May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends
    • Able to provide occasional on-call support on a rotational basis

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related experience

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associate's degree in a technical field
    • At least 4 years of experience with full life cycle installation, repair, maintenance, and operations of various fire, life and safety devices
    • Industry and safety certifications
    • Bilingual(English/Spanish)
    • Experience in a college setting

    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $45,000-$51,750

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
