Summary

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Chief Readiness Support Officer (OCRSO), Sustainability and Environmental Programs (SEP).

The primary purpose of this position is to develop, administer and maintain an agency-wide environmental compliance program.

Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Environmental Protection Specialist, GS-0028-14, your typical work assignments may include:
  • Determine environmental compliance program needs by evaluating program effectiveness, developing metrics, and conducting oversight to ensure compliance with federal policy, laws and regulations, and presidential executive orders as they pertain to the Department and the environment.
  • Examine and appraise all aspects of the environmental compliance program for conformance with federal laws, presidential executive orders, applicable regulations, policies, procedures, building plans and advises on findings and recommendations.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to Components in developing and implementing their environmental compliance plans and programs to comply with all environmental compliance goals, laws, executive orders, policies, and regulations.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal government, performing duties such as:
  • Developing environmental compliance program policies, procedures, guidance and annual reports in relation to federal and state environmental compliance requirements;
  • Providing environmental compliance technical assistance, auditing, and corrective action support; and
  • Conducting environmental compliance program oversight and training for a regional or national program.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level
