ABOUT THIS POSITION

The City of Phoenix, the fifth largest city in the U.S., is seeking a Sustainability Outreach Specialist that has a broad variety of marketing skills to assist the Office of Sustainability fulfill its vision of becoming the most sustainable desert city on the planet.

The ambitious sustainability goals that include becoming a carbon-neutral city with zero waste, transit and parks in every neighborhood, clean air, a sustainable water supply, and a vibrant food system all which require innovative marketing approaches and community engagement programs to result in impactful change.

The activities include:
  • Expanding sustainability-related public education and outreach campaigns including in-person and virtual events, social media campaigns and direct outreach.
  • Surveying and listening sessions in the community to understand key levers for change.
  • Outreach to broader stakeholders in the region to understand obstacles to sustainability and developing programs to address those obstacles.
  • Creating and publisheing engaging web and social media content.
  • Developing sustainability and environmental content and marketing materials for events and campaigns.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge and training in sustainability, the environment or related field .
  • Strong skills in written and oral communication, including the ability to lead training sessions and present at public meetings.
  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat, Excel, PowerPoint and Word and graphic design software
  • Three years of experience in marketing and communications, two years experience in public engagement programs or social media campaigns, and a bachelor's degree in a related marketing or communications field.

SALARY

Pay Range: $63,044.80 to $97,780.80 annually.

Hiring Range: $63,044.80 to $88,691.20 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of professional level experience in the field of ground or surface water, air, or soils management
  • Bachelor's degree in hydrology, environmental engineering, geology, environmental science, hydrogeology, biology, chemistry, hazardous materials management, or a related field
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Working more than forty hours in a workweek without additional compensation to perform assigned job duties, including weekends, evenings, early morning hours, and holidays as required.
  • Bi-Lingual in Spanish.
  • Indicate your experience with global sustainability challenges and opportunities.
  • Experience in developing education & awareness campaigns.
  • Experience developing and administering social media campaigns.
  • Experience and training in web content creation and graphic design.
  • Experience in equity-related programs and outreach to underserved populations.
