General Summary

The role of the Environmental Services Dispatcher is to manage most incoming call inquires and requests as it pertains to the cleanliness of patient rooms and areas within the hospital. The dispatcher will assign these requests to available environmental services technicians on duty using the Environmental Services Command Center in EPIC. In addition to assigning requests, the dispatcher is also tasked with monitoring all requests submitted into the command center that are active or pending to ensure minimal errors or discrepancies. The environmental services dispatcher is also tasked with monitoring the on-call ticketing queue through the help desk and allocating available environmental services technicians to complete each request. The dispatcher manages environmental services requests in an efficient, logical, and timely manner through the utilization of available applications and resources.

In addition to dispatching responsibilities, this role will require one to serve in a leadership capacity to environmental services technicians on duty. This is especially true when the supervisor and/or manager is absent or busy. The environmental services dispatcher serves as a resource for other staff by answering questions and assisting with complex problems or concerns.

DUTIES

  • Direct and monitor environmental services activities to mitigate any errors or discrepancies.
  • Maximize environmental services efficiency using logical decision making when assigning discharge bed requests, occupied cleans, UV lights, and service response/help desk tickets.
  • Use high-quality and respectful phone etiquette with patience and exceptional listening skills.
  • Have a deep understanding and knowledge of environmental services practices and protocols.
  • Resolve calls related to environmental services.
  • Represent the environmental services department by acting as a liaison between the environmental services department and other departments. Undertake a leadership role amongst environmental services peers through guidance and display of integrity.
  • Exhibit reliability and trustworthiness, strive to encapsulate the core values of TGH through all interaction.
  • Fabricate a daily shift report that is sent to management at the end of each shift, which tracks the days projects and events.
  • May be assigned EVS I, II, or III duties as needed.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Variable humidity, air conditioning, and dust. Exposure to chemicals and isolation patients, but there is minimal chance of injury/illness when established safety procedures are followed. Regular lifting, twisting, walking, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to walk and stand for most of the working hours in a day.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. 6 months of environmental services experience.
  • Must have a keen understanding of environmental services assignments and a working knowledge of hospital logistics.
  • Ability to accurately follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrated experience with computers.
