The Environmental Specialist ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and EMD Electronics policies. Responsibilities include data collection and analysis, maintaining environmental files, preparing permit modifications and regulatory reports, and administering environmental software systems. The role also involves overseeing site monitoring projects, evaluating bids, and supervising contractor fieldwork. Key duties include:

  • Oversee and ensure compliance to ISO 14001 standard and report to Leadership on Performance.
  • Provide environmental support to the Hometown, Pennsylvania and Catoosa, Oklahoma facilities.
  • Offer environmental/regulatory input on plant operations and initiate projects to improve environmental cost productivity.
  • Interact with vendors, regulators, inspectors, consultants, and contractors, preparing scopes of work, advising on bids, and recommending awards.
  • Provide field supervision for select plant projects such as source testing.
  • Represent the Environmental organization on plant subcommittees, incident investigations and Compliance initiatives (e.g., eMOC, Emergency Response, etc)
  • Coordinate test plans, sampling, data collection, and analysis for trials and cleanup activities, making recommendations based on results.
  • Serve as the site-wide focal point for EMS, developing a working knowledge of all environmental compliance programs.
  • Track and maintain compliance with routine record-keeping and reporting (e.g., SARA reports, Waste Reports, TRI, Semi-annual compliance reports).
  • Execute assigned EH&S tasks as part of a team.
  • Maintain applicable certifications and continuing education in the environment field.
  • Stay current in environmental field with continuing training on new control technologies, compliance requirements and strategies.
  • Work with other EMD Electronic sites to coordinate environmental activities to minimize costs and maximize productivity.
  • Apply for and obtain permit modifications and renewals. (e.g., Air Permit, NPDES, Stormwater and Solid Waste
  • Assist EMD's corporate sustainability strategy by collaborating with internal teams to achieve the environmental quality targets for Air, Water, and Waste at the Hometown and Catoosa Sites.
  • Gain familiarity with EMD Electronics businesses, products, inherent hazards, and regulatory challenges at supported facilities.


Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.) or Life Science (Chemistry, Biology, etc.)
  • 5+ years of work experience in a regulated chemical manufacturing facility (RCRA, SPCC, SARA/CERCLA, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic mathematical and statistical relationships in environmental sciences (e.g., units of measure, basic chemistry/biology).
  • Knowledge of environmental control technology and its application to chemical processes (e.g., Wet Scrubber Technology).
  • Knowledge of the regulatory and permitting processes and the roles of the individuals involved.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving tools (Brainstorm, What-if, Root Cause, etc.).
  • Knowledge of basic block and process flow diagrams, the concepts behind mass and energy balances and how they relate to the environment, as well as the associated process and environmental control equipment.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with basic office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, database, internet software) and software tools for managing environmental information, with the ability to identify electronic solutions to improve programs.
  • Ability to manage time and skills to adapt to changing priorities, demonstrate good organizational skills, flexibility, and ability to communicate and initiate changes.
