Leidos is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our Environmental Portfolio Planning and Sustainability Environmental Planning team. The Environmental Specialist will play an integral part in our NEPA and environmental compliance practices. This position will provide support to various DoD customers.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepare environmental analyses and documents that can include, but not limited to Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Impact Statement, and Environmental Assessments.
  • Assist the DoD Environmental Planning group in implementing regulations promulgated by the Council on Environmental Quality in accordance with Executive Order on Protection and Enhancement of Environmental Quality to protect and enhance the quality of human environment and meet national environmental goals associated with the implementation of various NEPA actions.
  • Assist with NEPA compliance and completing interagency and intergovernmental consultations.
  • Interface with various DoD services including headquarters offices, command levels and local duty stations as well as support to other contractors when required.
  • Identify impacts of proposed actions associated with DoD actions, to various resource areas including: hazardous waste/materials, socioeconomics, environmental justice, land use, physical resources (including water, soils, and geology), and biological resources including terrestrial and aquatic species.
  • Provide support for other affected environmental resources as requested.
  • May also assist in public involvement activities such as attending scoping meetings and public hearings.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years' relevant experience or a Master's degree and 4 years' relevant experience.
  • Candidate will have experience collecting data, developing reasonable project assumptions in coordination with conducting technical analyses
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations, including NEPA, and CAA, CWA, and RCRA or a combination
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional technical writing and task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and following up
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with teams of specialists and regulators at all levels

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in related area or specialized experience in the fields of environmental science, studies, or policy; ecology; or natural resources
  • Environmental consulting or regulatory agency work experience.
  • Experience with state and/or federal environmental review, regulatory interpretation, and permitting processes (including environmental assessment worksheets, environmental assessments, and environmental impact statements) in the Southwestern U.S.
  • Familiarity with socioeconomic screening tools
  • Applied knowledge of state and federal protected species programs

Pay Range: Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
