Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Under direction, participates in indoor air quality evaluations examining facilities to determine levels of contamination. Investigates problems and compliance with environmental health regulations, requirements and preventative maintenance standards. Compiles and analyzes investigative reports and related records to show compliance with the MCPS safety and environmental health program. Participates in required training. Provides health and safety support for the division.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:

Possession of a valid Maryland Class C driver's license or equivalent. Asbestos/AHERA certification desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of occupational safety principles, accident investigation techniques and environmental factors. Knowledge of relevant county, state and federal laws, standards and regulations. Ability to conduct environmental health and safety investigations and propose solutions to problems identified. Ability to prepare and analyze complex and detailed reports. Ability to read architectural plans and blueprints to evaluate compliance with applicable laws, codes and standards related to OSHA, NFPA, EPA and HVAC systems. Ability to use personal computer to input data and generate reports needed to verify compliance with required standards and the indoor air quality and safety programs. Possess the supervisory skills needed to lead work teams. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree required. College major in occupational safety and health or a related scientific field with at least four semester-hours in chemistry or related health courses or course work in scientific disciplines applicable to the field of occupational safety and environmental health. Three years experience in occupational safety and environmental health investigations including confined space entry, indoor air quality and other related areas. Experience in work related to employee, student and facility property safety, preferably in a school setting. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
