The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for two Lab Specialists. Our mission is to advance understanding of the environment through interdisciplinary scientific research, education, and service. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to computational research on ocean and atmosphere biogeochemistry using data analysis, remote sensing, and numerical modeling techniques. The candidates will work directly with Professor Scott Doney in the Department of Environmental Sciences.

Qualified candidates must have a background with oceanographic or atmospheric data sets and models is preferred. Ability to use advanced statistical data analysis software such as Matlab, R or SciPy, verbal and written communication abilities, ability to work as a member of a team, and ability to organize and complete tasks. The Lab Specialists will report to Scott Doney, Joe D & Helen J Kington Professor of Environmental Sciences.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree required.

Experience: 3 years of experience required. 6 years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Preferred Experience: Master's degree is preferred in Environmental Science or related science discipline. Experience in data analysis, visualization and/or numerical modeling of environmental data.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.

This position Is located In Charlottesville, VA.

The anticipated start date is June 1, 2024. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. The hiring range Is commensurate with education and experience. This is a Non-Exempt level, benefited position.
