Under the direction of the Procurement and Services Officer II, CF the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the direction and supervision of the Garage.
Plans and lays out schedules, requisitions or purchases parts and supplies necessary to complete the work; is responsible for maintaining a stock of supplies and parts for the care and maintenance of shop tools and equipment. Keeps required records and makes reports; instructs and trains inmates and agency personnel in the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
Inspects incoming equipment to determine repair work needed, estimates costs of repairs and reviews progress of work; inspects and tests completed jobs, and responsible for the care and maintenance of shop tools and equipment. Periodically inspects assigned equipment for conformance to agency preventive maintenance standards. Lays out, directs, and works with equipment repairmen and inmate crews in the repair of automobiles, trucks, forklifts, heavy equipment, stationary generators, compressors, and other related mechanical equipment. Prepares employee evaluations and other work performance documentation as needed or required. Responsible for attendance reporting on staff and inmates assigned. May participate on hiring interview panels. Attends training and staff meetings as required. Perform other duties as required.

San Quentin State Prison is California's oldest and best-known correctional institution, which was established on the site currently known as Point San Quentin, in July of 1852, as an answer to the rampant lawlessness in California at the time. The prison rests overlooking the bay on 432 acres and is located just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the county of Marin. The walled prison is made up of four (4) large cell blocks (West, South, North, and East Block), one (1) maximum security cell block (the Adjustment Center), Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm setting and a minimum-security firehouse.
