Join Our Team as an Equipment Services Service Technician for the City of Burlington!
\n
Are you ready to join The City of Burlington in our Public Works Department? We're seeking a dedicated individual to perform routine work operating motorized equipment and performing manual labor to support the role of keeping city streets, sidewalks, and city right of way at a safe and acceptable level.
\n
Expected Hiring Range:$34,380-$37,818. A starting salary above the range listed may be considered for highly qualified individuals not to exceed the maximum of the grade.

Examples of Duties
\n
- \n
- Operating backhoe to dig graves. \n
- Driving leaf truck, operating leaf vacuum for collection of curbside leaves \n
- Mowing cemeteries and other municipal owned facilities and lots \n
- Loading and unloading supply trucks used by crews; operating loader, forklift, and backhoe to unload supplies delivered to the supply yard. \n
- Hauls mulch, stone, and dirt to and from work sites, using dump truck. \n
- Providing general cleanup of city facilities, such as emptying garbage, picking up litter, and discarding yard waste \n
- Informing supervisor of equipment repair needs \n
- Other equipment operation and general labor duties as assigned. \n
- Work includes use of manual labor tools such as shovels, rakes, weed eaters etc. \n
- Works scheduled weekend assignments for burial services. \n
- Performs general turf and landscape maintenance on city owned properties; mowing, weed eating, mulching, pruning trees and shrubs, etc. \n
- Work includes digging, truck driving, snow and ice removal, tree removal, and cemetery maintenance. \n
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment used. \n
- Performs related duties as required. \n
Qualifications
\n
- \n
- Some knowledge ofequipment operation and general maintenance workperformed by a municipality. \n
- Skill in operating a backhoe, forklift, loader, mower, tractor, dump truck, leaf blower, weed eater, tamp, jackhammer, and other maintenance equipment. \n
- Skill in seeding and strawing, fertilizing, mowing, shoveling, raking, and erecting proper signage to denote crews at work. \n
- Demonstrated ability to follow safety procedures. \n
- High school diploma or GED equivalency and some prior equipment operation and maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. \n
- Valid NC Driver's license \n
- Class (B) CDL driver's license or the ability to obtain within twelve months of employment date. We will assist you with obtaining it if needed. \n

- This employee must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned. \n
- Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. \n
- The worker is required to have the visual acuity to be the operator of trucks, forklifts, backhoes, and other equipment. employee is subject to hazards, including mechanical equipment, electrical current, noise and vibration and atmospheric conditions due to exposure to fumes, odors, and dust. \n
