Water Services Section
Equipment Operator I:
  • An Equipment Operator I performs challenging unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, installation and operation of the water service lines within the city's water system.
  • Work includes a variety of construction repairs, maintenance assignments, and manual labor including, but not limited to, the installation of new water services that requires tapping of water mains and boring under roadways, abandonment of existing water service lines, upgrading and replacing water meter boxes, restoring of existing ground surfaces (soil, asphalt, concrete). Upgrades/replace meter boxes ad locate underground utilities.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
Requires a Class A, Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ), and tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.
Basic knowledge of pipe repair techniques and maintenance of water service lines is a plus!
