Expected Hiring Range:$41,144-43,202 . Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications. A starting salary above the range listed may be considered for highly qualified individuals not to exceed the maximum of the grade.

Examples of Duties

• Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to backhoes, forklifts, loaders, mowers, tractors, and dump trucks to perform a variety of tasks related to street maintenance and repair.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
• Execute street maintenance tasks such as repairing curbs, gutters, driveways, and sidewalks, as well as street patching and asphalt laying.
• Clear roadsides and other city properties by cutting brush, raking, and sweeping to enhance safety and aesthetics.
• Respond to emergency situations such as tree removal, ice and snow removal, and street repairs in adverse weather conditions.
• Adhere to departmental rules and policies to ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
• Knowledge of automotive and mechanical equipment operation is desirable.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 1 year of work experience in equipment operation and maintenance.
• Valid NC Class C Driver's License.

Special Requirements:

• Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class B CDL) or obtain within six months.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Work in this class is described as medium and frequently requires physical exertion to complete tasks and move objects.
• This employee must have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
• Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.
• The worker is required to have the visual acuity to be the operator of trucks, forklifts, cranes and other equipment.
• Employee is subject to hazards, including mechanical equipment, electrical current, noise and vibration and atmospheric conditions due to exposure to fumes, odors, and dusts.
• Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.
