The construction operator operates heavy construction machinery for tasks involving physical labor at highway/ heavy airfield paving construction projects. Placing and finishing of heavy-duty concrete pavement. The position requires operating a variety of heavy machinery, including hand and power tools, construction equipment and machinery, vehicles, and may include cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, installation of shoring to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. Works on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require a worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision by performing the following duties. Work Schedule: Monday to Thursday (6am to 4:30pm) Pay Range : The pay rate for this role depending on equipment operating ranges from $39.95 to $53.27 per hour. The base pay follows the Davis Bacon Wage Determination on the candidate's work location. Benefits:

Work Location: Onsite in Fairfield, CAFive or more years of construction experience preferably with highway construction and paving and intermediate to advance proficiency with operating various heavy construction and industrial machinery. Prefer heavy equipment certifications.
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in highway/heavy duty paving construction projects; performs manual work in preparing surfaces for paving.
  • The operator is responsible for operating one or several heavy of power construction and industrial equipment, such as motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, pumps, derricks, shovels, tractors, or front-end loaders, shearing and other equipment attachments.
  • Excavate, move, and grade earth, erect structures, or pour concrete or other hard surface pavement. May repair and maintain equipment in addition to other duties.
  • Signals concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete.
  • Finishes freshly placed concrete.
  • Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with rake or shovel.
  • Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, with handheld screed and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
  • Shovels bituminous concrete (asphalt) into construction areas.
  • Assists in patching asphalt with hot and cold mix. Excavates and fills trenches and ditches.
  • Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
  • Mops, brushes, or spreads paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection. Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
  • Maintains a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials.
  • Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.
  • Operates to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Levels earth to fine grade specifications.
  • Mix concrete using heavy concrete machinery.
  • Smooths and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete.
  • Demolishes pavement, saws lumber, dismantles forms, removes projections from concrete, mounts pipe hangers, and cuts and attaches insulating material.
  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director or HR manager.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for extended periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multilimbed coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-state and overnight travel may be expected. Must be able to work long hours up to 10-14 hours daily and commute to travel site locations.
