Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to provide instruction and assistance to state unit personnel regarding Army National Guard (ARNG) equipment and maintenance management. Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of equipment maintenance and management of a variety of ARNG equipment is required.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

The major duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as a recognized authority on the repair and operation of various types of ARNG equipment.
  • Provides advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities.
  • Prepares and conducts both classroom and on-the-job training designed to upgrade, improve, and/or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel.
  • Evaluates directives to ensure adherence to standard methods, conformity in maintenance procedures, and the proper use of maintenance equipment, facilities, and personnel.
  • Reviews the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment and maintenance management and needs for improvement of existing practices and the impact on the overall maintenance program.

  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.

  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.


Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment. The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology. A basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment. Experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical publications. Knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment. Experience using computer and automation systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following:
  • Experience, education or training which provided knowledge and skill in applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment design.
  • Experience in the use of tools and test equipment.
  • Experience developing, installing, inspecting or revising equipment maintenance programs and techniques.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of equipment maintenance and management of a variety of ARNG equipment sufficient to provide advice, assistance, and guidance to unit personnel.
  • Knowledge of the full range of ARNG equipment standards, policies, regulations, and methods sufficient to review the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment maintenance and training; and the need for improving existing practices that impact the overall equipment and maintenance program.
  • Ability to instruct and provide classroom training involving equipment repair and modification; requirements for equipment maintenance records and reports; proper utilization and maintenance of equipment and facilities, etc.
  • Knowledge of and ability to oversee equipment programs, maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reductions programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities.


COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any unit within state

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.

Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid.

Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
