Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Assists the chief of staff (COS) with responsibilities related to matters related to communication, collaboration and coordination of the executive team to implement the Strategic Planning Framework and the District Implementation Plan. Manages and problem-solves day-to-day matters of the Office of the Chief of Staff. Supports COS in communication, collaboration and coordination of the executive team; engages administrators to support COS in the oversight of the assigned MCPS offices, departments and divisions. Collects, analyzes interprets and reports/presents data to COS; engages internal and external stakeholders and serves as representative for the Office of the Superintendent, as directed by the COS. Researches, writes, edits, and reviews correspondence, and prepares reports for the COS. Keeps the COS apprised of matters of impact and interest to the district and the superintendent, relative to the executive leadership team; activities, information and concerns of reporting offices and stakeholders. Collects and analyzes data to inform decisions and best practices. Responds to constituents and correspondence on behalf of the superintendent; supports the superintendent with tasks, as assigned. Provides support and assistance to staff reporting to the COS with Board of Education presentations, correspondence, responses to parents, citizens, and members of the community, data collection, and aligning work to the school system goals, strategic planning, and major initiatives. Assists the COS in the resolution of problems between and among offices that require superintendent-level involvement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of project management, MCPS programs, strategic initiatives, procedures and practices, policies and regulations organizational and leadership theory. Demonstrates cultural competence and a deep understanding of and empathy for issues facing diverse groups. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in educational administration or a related field required. Experience as a school-based administrator preferred; and extensive experience in project management, strategic planning and solving problems, data analysis, making decisions, policy and education law interpretations, and writing/editing reports. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
