Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of GEAR UP TN services in assigned school districts
  • Responsible for collaborating with district administration, school administration, and community partners to develop and implement an annual GEAR UP TN work plan and budget for each participating school system that will successfully accomplish college and career ready benchmarks
  • Collaborate with GEAR UP TTU -UC program coordinator to share best practices and ensure the efficient use of resources in meeting GEAR UP TTU -UC goals and objectives
  • Ensure compliance with all grant requirements as determined by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Responsible for the preparation of all grant-related reporting
  • Responsible for preparing bi-weekly progress reports and submitting those reports to the grant Principal Investigator
  • Responsible for ensuring necessary data collection is being conducted and assisting the Principal Investigator with the program evaluation to ensure grant compliance and long-term sustainability of the program
  • Responsible for presenting program updates at all GEAR UP board meetings
  • Participate in GEAR UP meetings and professional development opportunities sponsored by the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships
  • Leverage community resources to solicit in-kind contributions of goods and services, and maintain proper records for all expenditures and grant match requirements
  • Establish productive working relationships with all levels of stakeholders
  • Assess, in consultation with the GEAR UP staff and direct service school personnel, the needs of assigned schools, and adapt programs and activities to meet these needs
  • Actively seek the advice and counsel of the school administrators, faculty, and community members at assigned school(s)
  • Responsible for the supervision of the program coordinator and 8-10 fulltime college advisors
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Education Specialist degree (Ed.S.) in education, education counseling, education administration, or higher education student services with ten years of experience working with middle and/or high school students OR a master's degree with at least twelve years of related professional experience is required. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high-volume environment. Experience and knowledge in college access programming such as postsecondary options including admission requirements and processes. A strong knowledge of financial aid and scholarship programs. Experience performing with a high level of diplomacy, confidentiality, and trust while projecting a professional and positive image. Successful record of designing and implementing plans on time and within budget. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize objectives and exercise judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to respond quickly and constructively to changes or unexpected shifts in priorities. Experience managing a team of professionals. Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including software such as Microsoft Office Suite (such as, but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher), on-line systems, and Internet.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate Degree in Education from an accredited university. Prior experience managing a GEAR UP program. Demonstrated skills in an institutional/education environment. Experience with student management programs such as Skyward, PowerSchool, etc.
