ABOUT HOMEPLATE YOUTH SERVICES

Beginning in 2005 with a $3,000 grant and a vision of helping youth facing housing instability thrive, HomePlate has grown to become a nonprofit leader in the field of youth homelessness and is currently the only nonprofit providing a full breadth of services to youth experiencing housing instability in Washington County. Currently, Beaverton has the highest rate of student homelessness in the state of Oregon. With a budget of $2,500,000 and 26 staff, we operate youth drop-in, street outreach, employment, and housing navigation and placement services for youth ages 12 to 24, successfully connecting with 900 youth per year.

Driven by a philosophy of "meeting youth where they are", HomePlate works towards meeting youth- identified education, housing, employment, medical, and other goals by leveraging The Circle of Courage, a positive youth development framework that integrates the cultural wisdom of tribal peoples, the practice wisdom of professional pioneers with troubled youth, and findings of modern youth development research.

HomePlate envisions a welcoming community where all youth feel a sense of belonging and value and one in which housing is safe, accessible, and sustainable. To realize this vision, our work is centered around open and honest communication, respect for the place our youth are on life's journey, compassion for the burdens they carry, a belief in their independence and power, and a space where they feel a sense of ownership and belonging.
