JOB DESCRIPTION: The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction is responsible for assisting the Chief Academic Officer with curriculum and instruction . The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of our curriculum and instructional strategies. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our educational programs meet the highest standards of quality and effectiveness, and are aligned with our mission to provide an exceptional learning experience for all students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in the formulation of the District Improvement Plan.
  • Guide development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum, instructional and assessment services in conjunction with District adopted instruction model.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction.
  • Keep abreast of developments in curriculum, instruction, and assessment as well as instructional technology. Furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district educational program.
  • Assist in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of instructional personnel.
  • Guide development, implementation, and evaluation of pre-service and in-service training programs for professional personnel.
  • Work with the directors and building principals in the improvement of individual staff competencies.
  • Communicate the approved curriculum to the professional staff and maintains a list of approved instructional materials. Work with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level and departmental meetings, in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the district.
  • Direct creation of and edits for publication all curriculum guides and materials prepared by and to be distributed among the instructional staff.
  • Maintain a current curriculum manual to show graduation requirements, approved courses, credit allowed, and any pertinent information useful to students and staff.
  • Maintain a curriculum library for staff use.
  • Provide staff leadership to ensure understanding of and promote the educational objectives of the district, and plans and administers programs of in-service educational activities for instructional personnel.
  • Observe teachers in their classrooms and offers insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning.
  • Assume responsibility for reviewing and evaluating results of districtwide testing programs, and for other evaluative measures used by the schools.
  • Study and evaluate, and, as appropriate, recommends adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and programs, and assists in budget preparation for newly approved instructional programs as related to instructional supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Assume a leadership role in developing curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislature or the Board.
  • Coordinate all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of curriculum improvement.
  • Recommend the addition of new courses, grade placement of courses, credit allowance for courses, and graduation requirements.
  • Collaborate with District Staff to ensure student learner outcomes/school outcomes and assessments are established
  • Interpret the curriculum and its philosophy to the Board, the administration, the staff, and the general public.
  • Participate in the work of state and national curriculum associations and study groups.
  • Maintain liaison and active participation with educational leaders in curriculum and instruction at state, regional, and national levels.
  • Attend Board of Education and Board committee of the whole monthly meetings as requested.
  • Attend local, state and national meetings as is necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this job description, subject to the approval of the District Administrator and budgetary restraints.
  • Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the District Administrator.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
  • Hold valid Class A or Class AA Alabama Professional Educator Certificate with endorsement in Leadership.
  • Minimum of at least 2- 5 years of experience as an instructional leader (principal) director, program specialist, or district leadership.
  • Current and valid Alabama Teaching Certificate with certification.
