The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Executive Director of Marketing and Communications for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Donor Experience Officer, the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for strategically aligning marketing and communications efforts with Advancement priorities to ensure the division meets its fundraising and alumni engagement goals.

This role will engage with Advancement colleagues and the campus community at-large to connect with alumni of all demographics and inspire philanthropic supporters at all giving levels. The Executive Director serves as a member of the Division of Advancement's Senior Leadership team and oversees a team of twelve full time staff members dedicated to various facets of the UT Knoxville Advancement division's communications and marketing operation (including digital, creative, media production, and content development), as well as developing resources and direction for campus-wide academic colleges and units in communicating with donor and alumni audiences. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Management and Leadership: Lead and inspire a professional team in digital communications, creative design, and marketing focusing on alumni engagement, fundraising, and stewardship, while providing strategic direction toward division-wide goals. Regularly assess and prioritize team projects, offer strategic advice, help to minimize roadblocks, and foster connection to ensure success in meeting metrics. Sets and evaluates team goals and optimizes systems for efficiency. Collaborates strategically with the Advancement Senior Leadership team and colleagues across the division to advance the university.

Marketing and Communications: Ensure consistent messaging and brand across Advancement communications channels, driving alumni engagement, donor acquisition and retention, and broader exposure to the impact of philanthropy through both digital and in person efforts. Oversee the division-wide message strategy and content calendar, while developing strategic marketing and communications plans to reach key audiences. Utilize data driven strategies to continuously measure the effectiveness of marketing and communications efforts, making informed decisions about appropriate technology, channels, and audience segmentation. Provides resources, tools, templates, and training to the UT Knoxville campus on effective communication to alumni and donor audiences. Serves as a key strategic partner to UT Knoxville's Office of Communications and Marketing, as well as academic colleges and units.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

The candidate who fills the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications position is required to have:

- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or related field

- 8+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relation

- 2+ years of supervisory/ management experience.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skill

Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:

- Master's Degree

- Higher education experience

- Fundraising communications experience
