Position Summary

Under direction of the VP of Operations and in partnership with the Chair of Radiation Oncology, the Executive Director of Radiation Therapy Physician Services develops, implements, and measures effectiveness of business strategies as they impact the Radiation Oncology network. The Executive Director collaborates with Radiation Oncology leadership while exercising independent judgement and decision-making authority within the framework provided by Medical Foundation Leadership. They provide leadership, consultation, and professional level support to physicians within the radiation oncology network, while maintaining continuous physician interaction and administrative and clinical operational oversight for the joint venture radiation oncology centers with McKesson. The role defines and frames complex physician issues and evaluates the application across the radiation oncology network, developing appropriate action plans and the required implementation through collaboration with faculty and key physician leaders. The Director is responsible for driving results related to initiatives and involves various interdepartmental entities including Medical Foundation, National Medical Center, Managed Care, ITS, Business Development, Finance, and Operations as needed, while ensuring that the fundamental practice of City of Hope is implemented at all joint "Centers". The position will focus on analysis of current business issues and market trends to direct the organization of resources toward meeting expansion and capacity goals. The position will collaborate with senior administration to consolidate critical findings for leading discussion with the executive team and board of directors. The Director provides leadership and direction of the development and implementation of initiatives and processes that improve desired outcomes for City of Hope and McKesson.

Key Responsibilities include:

Physician Support
  • Interfaces with physicians to assess needs and acts as a liaison to finance and operations in support of their practice.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership on developing, prioritizing, and building alignment within the Radiation Oncology network.
  • Works closely with Radiation Oncology Chair and Radiation Oncology physician leadership on faculty specific quality, financial, and operational performance of Centers.
  • Assists in the development of physician recruitment plans in support of City of Hope's strategy for assigned centers, along with larger Radiation Oncology network faculty staffing plans.
  • Leads key meetings regarding physician and department performance.
  • Consistently maintains an outreach to all faculty and provides physician support and assistance.

Performance Improvement
  • Provides leadership to centers in provider engagement, contracting, and operations, ensuring Centers are in alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Champions a collaborative and integrated work environment
  • Works closely with physicians, Medical Foundation, and McKesson leadership on strategies to improve many aspects of the Centers.
  • Provides leadership and guidance on performance improvement strategies to meet key performance metrics.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to faculty regarding key performance metrics.
  • Assists with the design of, implementation and maintenance of physician based institutional incentive plans, including mission support programs.
  • Monitors and measures physician productivity and capacity.
  • Generates reports and makes recommendations to assist senior leadership in decision-meeting.

Growth and Outreach
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to plan for City of Hope expansion into key markets.
  • Assists with market surveys and analysis including the identification of space and new capacity for City of Hope services.
  • Assists with certain transaction services which include the integration or expansion of physician services.

Information and Communication Management
  • Meets monthly with Radiation Oncology Chair and Radiation Oncology physician leadership to discuss areas of opportunity for faculty.
  • Staffs key committees, including the finance and compensation committees of the Medical Group.
  • Prepares board, committee and other presentations in support the clinical enterprise.

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.



Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Master's Degree
  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant leadership experience in healthcare administration, health care consulting, or a combination of these experiences in health care or a related field, preferably in a highly complex, matrixed organization such as an academic medical center, large physician group practice, medical school teaching hospital or research university.
