Responsibilities

  • This position assists with bariatric patients by implementing exercise prescriptions as part of secondary prevention.
  • Evaluates individual responses to exercise and conditioning, and educates patients regarding secondary prevention.
  • Incumbents should possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information appropriate and necessary to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
  • The Exercise Specialist delivers exercise therapy and education to facilitate behavior modification and change.
  • Manages patient data to determine outcome of program effectiveness.
  • Additional requirements include the ability to assist in implementation of new health and wellness programs, Bariatric Support Groups, Childhood Obesity Program and other services and activities.
  • Individual is accountable for complying with national standards and benchmarks in accordance with BMC standards to deliver efficient, effective, quality patient care.
  • The Exercise Specialist is expected to adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the law and must demonstrate critical thinking, skills, and leadership in anticipating, delegating and planning.
  • The coordinator will assist in creating and implementing programs for the purpose of educating and engaging employees in healthy lifestyle choices.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • BLS required (upon hire)
  • One of the following personal trainer certifications required (upon hire)
    • NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine)
    • ISSA (International Sports Science Association)
    • ACE (American Council on Exercise)
    • ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)
    • NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)

Preferred Requirements:
  • 1 year of Exercise Specialist or equivalent experience preferred
  • Exercise physiologist experience preferred
