The duties include but are not limited to:
  • Supervises Facilities, Maintenance, Custodial Services, Energy Management and the employees in those departments.
  • Manages new construction and preventative maintenance of all MCPSS facilities, including all zone maintenance teams, and the system maintenance team, in addition to minor service contracts (i.e. mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, pest control, etc.). Ensures compliance with established standards and guidelines.
  • Oversees management and implementation of new construction, corrective maintenance and maintenance safety programs. Provides overall supervision of Facilities and Maintenance personnel. Conducts employee performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Ensures excellent quality of maintenance services, safe work practices, and compliance with district, state, and federal procedures and regulations.
  • Ensures sufficient coverage for special maintenance projects and activities within the Mobile County Public School System.
  • Supports Facilities and Maintenance in the execution of their duties and ensures workload capacity is appropriately set across all zones.
  • Works with the Executive Manager of Facilities to establish and monitor a Facilities/Maintenance budget.
  • Develops departmental procedures and regulations related to the maintenance and safety functions.
  • Sets work schedules, assigns duties and prioritizes work loads.
  • Plans training sessions and professional development opportunities to provide instruction on maintenance techniques and procedures.
  • Performs regular reviews of government and industry standards and product innovations to ensure best practices are used within MCPSS in relation to equipment, procedures, etc.
  • Develops department procedures related to maintenance work, special project and trades team functions.
  • Evaluates staffing levels of trades teams, multi craft, key & lock technicians, CNP equipment team at MCPSS facilities to ensure appropriate staffing.
  • Plan annual and individualized training sessions and professional development opportunities to provide instruction on safe techniques and procedures, proper equipment use and approved methods. Ensures employee participation in said training opportunities.
  • Conducts on site inspections to review work as necessary; Responds to escalated special maintenance project issues.
  • Requisitions and maintains reports of work and materials utilized.
  • Maintains accurate and timely record of time, labor, and materials.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, foremen, and other individuals employed, i.e. principals and other school staff.
  • Handles other duties assigned by the Superintendent and/or Executive Manager, Facilities.
  • This position may also be required to work after hours and weekends when necessary.
  • This position may also be required to perform duties on shift work-schedules.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate from a regionally accredited school or have GED equivalent. Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Must have extensive background in all phases of the construction/environmental industry.

Must be physically capable of performing described duties.

Must have extensive knowledge of custodial and janitorial services and strong knowledge of construction, mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades and experience with writing technical specifications, cost estimating, construction supervision and fiscal accounting.

Must be familiar with local, state, and federal building codes.

Fifteen (15) years of experience in building, electrical, plumbing, carpentry or mechanical crafts is preferred, or possess a combination of training and experience and must demonstrate ability to perform work.

Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.

SALARY: $MT08
