The Faculty Development Specialist supports the Professional Development Assistant Director by coordinating and facilitating various professional development (PD) initiatives. This role focuses on the strategic development of new, cutting-edge professional development offerings that are tailored to address identified faculty needs. Additionally, this role will provide advanced instructional design support, ensuring that all curriculum development is informed by the latest educational trends and best practices, thereby enhancing the effectiveness and reach of training and outreach efforts.

The salary range for this position is approximately between $60,000-$67,000 per year with the potential for a hybrid working capacity.

Job Duties

Online Training: Co-Teaching and Course Management

  • Co-facilitate asynchronous professional development courses by expertly moderating discussions, sending timely announcements, assessing participant engagement through grading, and providing detailed, responsive support to inquiries, ensuring a dynamic learning environment.
  • Revise and refine courses within Canvas to optimize content delivery and engagement for subsequent iterations, incorporating feedback and best practices in curriculum development.
  • Facilitate and co-teach live workshops, including moderating in-depth discussions and delivering synchronous sessions, such as the established "Introduction to Online Teaching for Graduate Students and Post-docs," ensuring interactive and impactful learning experiences.
  • Provide targeted guidance and constructive feedback to course participants, fostering professional growth and mastery of course content.
  • Manage and coordinate instructor meetings in collaboration with Digital Learning instructional designers, ensuring alignment on course objectives, instructional strategies, and participant needs.


Live Events: Logistics and Hosting

  • Oversee event logistics with precision, including scheduling, promotion, and post-event follow-up, to ensure seamless execution and maximum participant engagement.
  • Assist in hosting and launching Online Brown Bag Seminars and Online Learning Community of Practice sessions, as well as managing the professional development calendar to enhance outreach and ongoing learning opportunities.


Professional development offerings

  • Design, develop specialized curriculum and facilitate (including as sole presenter) new professional development training programs, such as Advanced Online Delivery, teaching with GenAI, tailored to emerging needs and leveraging the candidate's unique experience and skills.
  • Continuously stay informed on emerging trends and technologies in education, integrating innovative practices into curriculum development, training, and outreach efforts to maintain cutting-edge professional development offerings.
  • Revise and refine courses within Canvas to optimize content delivery and engagement for subsequent iterations, incorporating feedback and best practices in curriculum development.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Ed Technology, Adult Ed, or related field
  • 2+ years experience with responsibility for creating professional development opportunities in an education setting (higher education or K-12)
  • 2+ years full or 4+ years part-time teaching experience, preferably including experience teaching online


Preferred Experience:

  • Doctoral degree
