Research Instructor

Lead Neurophysiologist for Epilepsy Research

Applications are invited for a new, research faculty position (non-tenure track) within the Brain Modulation Lab. The work will focus on clinical and research data collected in patients undergoing surgical evaluation and treatment for epilepsy, including 1. Primary responsibility for the integration of multi-modal neurophysiology data for diagnostic evaluation and surgical planning, 2. Preparation of data summaries for a weekly epilepsy surgery conference, 3. Facilitation of ongoing collaborations with computational neuroscientists at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, 4. Preparation of abstracts for presentation at scientific meetings, 5. Preparation of manuscripts for publication, 6. Oversight of an intracranial EEG database that includes both acute iEEG collected in the epilepsy monitoring unit and chronic iEEG collected with the RNS device, 7. Development of a stereoelectroencephalography data analysis pipeline and related educational training materials.

The ideal applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, or Electrical/Computer Engineering. Strong technical, computational, and signal processing skills are required, as is experienced with clinical neurophysiology data collected in patients undergoing presurgical epilepsy evaluation. The ability to design and write scripts in MATLAB and/or Python is required. Superior organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to thrive independently, in addition to working with epilepsy neurologists; ability to handle fluctuating priorities, deadlines, and changes in the clinical schedule is also required. Applicants should have a strong track record of publication. This is a transitional appointment, expecting to last no more than 2 to 3 years, at which time promotion to Research Assistant Professor is the goal.
