Job Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry has an opening for the Program Director of Psychiatry Residency Training. The Program Director will be responsible for overseeing all tracks of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program and will establish and nurture a culture of continuous improvement and collegiality, promote scholarship and innovation, respond to new demands and opportunities arising from a rapidly changing healthcare landscape, and represent and advocate for the Department's residency in local, national, and internal arenas. The Director will lead the admission and accreditation processes, as well as all relevant residency director roles within the Department's residency structure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the selection process to ensure that the program recruits an outstanding and diverse intern class with diversity defined broadly including race, ethnicity, specialty, research, and other academic interests.
  • Building superb educational programs, ensuring that residents have exceptional experiences in all rotations and that faculty are held accountable for creating such experiences.
  • Leading the assessment process for residents, one that includes the use of competencies, complies with ACGME policies, and ensures that residents receive useful feedback on such assessments.
  • Leading the mentoring and personal/career counseling program for residents including effectively advocating for residents in applying for jobs and fellowships.
  • Creating a strategy for continuous improvement and evolution of the residency program in response to opportunities and challenges including those in the healthcare delivery system and those created by our growing clinical and research knowledge base.
  • Providing strong financial stewardship including effectively managing the residency budget, responsibly advocating for resources, and fostering philanthropy.
  • Establishing a positive working relationship with residency and other relevant staff and, together, creating an organization known for its excellence in operations.
  • Establishing a culture of innovation and scholarship by promoting scholarship among residents and program leaders.
  • Collaborating with Vice Chair of Education to ensure that the strategy set for residency program aligns with departmental vision and mission.
  • Participating in Office of Education and Training Council and interfacing with Faculty Program Directors of other disciplines to ensure cohesion for the interdisciplinary programs of training across the Department
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of CU policies and procedures with respect to graduate medical education as well as the ACGME Institutional and Program Requirements for Psychiatry to lead all aspects of educational training requirements.
  • Work effectively with the sponsoring institution's Designated Institutional Official (ACGME's "DIO") and Graduate Medical Education office to ensure the program's compliance with all institutional accreditation expectations, to obtain necessary support and resource allocation for the program, and to personally participate in the institution's Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and in any other assigned educational administrative activities at the institutional level.
  • Work effectively with all rotation site leadership, site directors and faculty around residents rotations, goals and objectives for rotations, resident feedback and evaluation, rotation availability and yearly scheduling, growth or limitations of educational opportunities, faculty development, and all resident related education.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Associate Professor: 4-7 years of related clinical experience at a rank or equivalent experience. Minimum degree qualifications: M.D.

Professor: 7+ years of related clinical experience at a rank or equivalent experience. Minimum degree qualifications: M.D.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Psychiatry trainees
  • Experience with multiple hospital systems to ensure that our trainees in all settings have the support they need
  • Evaluation of Residence performance


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work cooperatively with all constituencies in the Department of Psychiatry including Departmental Chair, Program Directors, and administrative staff.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Associate Professor: $250,000 to $270,000

Professor: $280,000 to $310,000

Please note that there is the possibility of an additional stipend based on candidate qualifications and experience.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
