ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Pathology in the School of Medicine, is recruiting a basic science investigator with expertise in innate immunity and obstructive lung disease for an Assistant Professor position in the Tenure Stream. The primary responsibility will be to investigate mechanisms of damage-associated molecular patterns in mouse and human cell models of obstructive lung disease and exacerbations.

The Assistant Professor will be the primary investigator and will oversee the overall coordination and supervision of all research projects in the laboratory. The candidate will be expected to submit proposals to obtain independent funding from the NIH and other sources to execute proposed studies in the laboratory. They will be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising all staff, as well as recruiting, training, and mentoring students in the laboratory. The candidate will be responsible for the execution of experiments, data collection, analysis, and management. They will also be responsible for reporting the findings of investigations at local, regional, and international meetings, as well as publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The Assistant Professor will be a faculty member in the Division of Experimental Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and will participate in the education of students in the Cell and Molecular Pathology graduate program and other associated graduate and medical programs. The candidate will also train and mentor students and fellows in the laboratory. Innovation and collaboration are important parts of our activities, and we expect that the candidate will promote multidisciplinary collaborative research with internal and external collaborators. Departmental and institutional support is available for teaching and research activities.

Qualifications: We are seeking MD/DO and/or PhD candidates with a strong background in cell and molecular pathology of chronic pulmonary disease. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience with human cell and mouse models of obstructive lung disease, particularly focusing on experimental models of severe asthma and allergic airway disease. Expertise in the mechanisms of damage-associated molecular patterns, cytokine signaling pathways in inflammation, and obstructive features in pulmonary disease is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a proven track record in evaluating targeted therapeutics in various mouse models of asthma and allergic airway disease.
