Position Title: Family and Community Engagement Specialist

Location: Central Office-Pickens County Schools, Alabama

Position Type: 9-Month, Grant-Funded (Alabama Stronger Connections Grant Funded)

Reports To: Administrator of Student Services

Position Summary:

The Family and Community Engagement Specialist will support and enhance the partnership between Pickens County Schools and the families and communities it serves. This role will focus on improving student success through the active involvement of families and community stakeholders, fostering a supportive and collaborative educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Program Development and Implementation:
    1. Develop, implement, and manage family and community engagement programs aligned with district goals and the Alabama Stronger Connections Grant requirements.
    2. Coordinate workshops, meetings, and events that promote family and community involvement in students' education.


  1. Communication and Outreach:
    1. Serve as a liaison between the school district, families, and community organizations.
    2. Create and distribute communication materials such as newsletters, flyers, and social media updates to keep families informed and engaged.
    3. Conduct outreach efforts to increase family participation in school activities and decision-making processes.


  1. Support and Advocacy:
    1. Provide resources and support to families to help them navigate the school system and support their children's education.
    2. Advocate for the needs and interests of families and the community within the school district.


  1. Training and Capacity Building:
    1. Organize and facilitate training sessions for staff, families, and community members on topics related to family engagement and community partnerships.
    2. Build the capacity of school staff to effectively engage with families and community partners.


  1. Data Collection and Reporting:
    1. Collect and analyze data related to family and community engagement activities.
    2. Prepare reports for district administration and the Alabama Stronger Connections Grant program, highlighting progress and outcomes.


  1. Collaboration:
    1. Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and community partners to develop strategies that support student achievement and well-being.
    2. Participate in district and community meetings, committees, and advisory councils as needed.


Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma.
  2. Experience in family and community engagement, preferably within a school setting.
  3. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
  5. Knowledge of best practices in family and community engagement.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
  7. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed.


Compensation:
  • Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, following district guidelines for a 9-month instructional assistant.
