JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is a 0.8 FTE located at Washington-Liberty School.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and implement appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate kind and level of materials, provide appropriate learning experiences, manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning.

  • Ability to support an integrated family education curricula.

  • Willingness to collaborate with regular education teachers to integrate interdisciplinary opportunities and look for natural connections between curriculums.

  • Continually assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for state, institutional, and individual reporting purposes.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of planning and instruction delivery with project-based learning activities.

  • Establishes and implements behavioral protocols; observes and evaluates student behavior, performance, social, and leadership development.

  • Instruct students utilizing a variety of classroom methods, adapting methodology and instructional materials to meet student needs, abilities, and IEPs.

  • Manage the safe use and operation of the lab and lab equipment.

  • Instruct students on the safe use of lab equipment and appropriate behavior within the lab and classroom.

  • Collaborates with business partners to provide enhanced authentic learning experiences for students.

  • Integrates student organizations leadership activities with curricula content and participate in after school activities within the school, district, region, state, and nationally.

  • Utilize curricula that reflects the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served

  • Participates in ongoing professional development

  • Foster partnerships and ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience teaching secondary 6th - 12th grade specialized technical courses within Family and Consumer Science.

  • Responsible for providing instruction on a wide range of technical equipment used in business industry.


  • Experience working with family life education, child development, teachers for tomorrow, and economics and personal finance.

  • Experience with integrating the latest family and consumer sciences' curricula with content from core disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.

  • Possession of a collegiate professional or postgraduate professional license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsement in Family and Consumer Science.

  • Due to the various courses offered for Family and Consumer Sciences, specific industry certifications may be needed by the qualified candidate to teach courses whereby the students will sit for an industry certification test.

  • Candidates with a Master's Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences are highly preferred.

  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with staff, students, and the public.


  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.
