Federal Work Study Student Worker, Greenhouse/Horticulture

Overview

The Greenhouse Horticultural Service Technician is responsible for maintaining the plant collections within the Cincinnati State greenhouse, as well as basic greenhouse upkeep.

We are looking for a current Horticulture Student to do the following:

• Watering and fertilizing all plants as necessary.
• Keeping all plants cleaned, and trimmed.
• Removing any damaged or unsightly foliage.
• Removing leaf debris from containers to prevent disease.
• Keeping benches and floor clear of dirt and debris.
• Quarantining infested plants.
• Removing weeds from greenhouse areas.
• Cleaning the restroom and removing trash as needed from inside the greenhouse.

Essential Functions of the Job

• Must be able to lift 10 lb. water buckets and up to 20 lb. plants.
• Must be able to climb step ladders and have good dexterous use of both hands.
• Must be able to use scissors, pruners, hand saws, hoses and other small tools.
• Must be able to professionally communicate with college staff and students.
• Employee must be willing to get wet and dirty at times.

Minimum Qualifications:

The hiring of student workers by Cincinnati State is premised on eligibility guidelines for federal work study employment: eligible applicants must be high school graduates or have attained a GED. Additionally, eligible applicants for work study positions at Cincinnati State must be at least 16 years of age on or before the date of hire.

• Must have completed a FAFSA for the current school year.
• Must meet and continue to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
• Must be a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• Must demonstrate financial need

Hourly Pay: $14.00 per hour

Status: Position is part-time working no more than 20 hours per week.
