Then, you would be a perfect fit as a Field Service Technician for John Zink in the Fired Equipment Group for the refining and petrochemical industries!

This is a remote position with desired location between Houston, TX and Lake Charles, LA.

Our Team

John Zink Company, a KOCH ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS (KES) company, serves customers with innovative, engineered-to-order solutions. Our equipment group business supplies components for applications in various markets with a focus on the refining and petrochemical Industry. Our Technical Services business supports this equipment with knowledgeable Field Service Specialists, who perform commissioning, tuning, troubleshooting, inspection and maintenance services for our customers worldwide.

What You Will Do

  • The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for installation supervision, conducting customer audits/inspections, troubleshooting and maintenance recommendations to our customers.
  • They will support onsite inspections and recommendations for parts replacement often during customer Turnaround events.
  • The technician will leverage their knowledge and interpersonal skills to develop strong customer relationships required to earn customer Trust.
  • They will have operational and functional knowledge of process burners, flare systems, boiler burners and thermal oxidizers. You must possess good mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn complex mechanical systems.
  • The technician will be expected to travel routinely throughout the Gulf Coast region with occasional travel required outside the region.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience working with process burners on process heaters and other combustion related equipment (i.e., flares, thermal oxidizers, boilers)
  • Experience working onsite in the petrochemical and oil refining industries
  • Experience in technical problem solving and helping customers
  • Possess a strong personal safety culture
  • Able to travel to job sites approximately 75% of the time
  • A TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) will have to be obtained within first six (6) weeks of employment
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Candidate must live in the Gulf Coast, preferably between Houston and Lake Charles area


Physical requirements:
  • Able to lift up to 50# on occasion and 25# routinely, able to bend, stoop, crawl, climb ladders/stairs, and maneuver around skidded equipment and piping.
  • Able to hear distinct sounds, visualize all colors of spectrum and visually see up close and at distance.
  • Comfortable entering confined spaces and working at heights
  • This work is in an outdoor environment and long workdays on occasion


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Customer facing field experience in a technical support or operational role in refining, petrochemical, or power generation industries
  • 2-year Technical Degree from an accredited college or trade school in a mechanically-based technical major, OR 4 years of military service working with boilers
  • Work experience in the fired equipment and steam generation industry on burners, flares or thermal oxidizers


For this role, we anticipate paying $35 an hour or higher based on experience. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form. This role is eligible for overtime as needed to support customer demands as a paid service.
