Job Summary

Under general supervision, individuals utilize specialized knowledge and skills in trust tax accounting and reporting. This expertise is acquired through education and experience. Their responsibilities include analyzing Federal and State tax reports prepared by trust tax service providers, conducting research, and ensuring compliance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state rules and regulations. Detailed instructions, established procedures, and prescribed guidelines are provided to perform a variety of tasks and make routine decisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serves as a liaison between the Trust Tax department and tax service providers.

• Assists with reviewing Federal and state income tax returns, including consolidated/combined returns.

• Researches moderately complex tax issues and suggests options for solving them.

• Responds to notices from Federal, state, and local jurisdictions.

• Reviews wash sale exceptions and determines appropriate adjustments in the trust accounting system.

• Assists in the review of annual withholding tax returns (Forms 945 - Annual Return of Withheld Federal Income Tax, Form 1042 - Annual Withholding Tax Return for U.S. Source Income for Foreign Persons, and Form 1042-S - Foreign Person's U.S. Source Income Subject to Withholding).

• Assists with analyzing reports from the trust accounting system to make tax decisions.

• Assists with Generation Skipping Transfer Tax reviews.

• Researches, interprets and applies IRS and state tax requirements.

• Communicates tax rules and regulations to others and responds to inquiries.

• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of

• General office practices, procedures and methods.

• Knowledge of software applications including Excel and Word.

• Trust administration knowledge, is preferred.

Skill in

• Researching and interpreting IRS and state tax requirements.

• Analyzing large volumes of data.

• Communicating tax rules and regulations to others.

• Gathering and compiling information.

• Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications to produce correspondence, and electronic communication and maintain spreadsheets and databases.

Ability to

• Read, comprehend, and apply complex IRS and State withholding rules, regulations, and requirements.

• Identify and resolve tax issues.

• Demonstrate efficiency and flexibility in performing detailed transactional tasks in a fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions, changing priorities, and deadlines.

• Interpret and apply policies, and identify and recommend changes as appropriate.

• Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with all organizational levels.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements

Education/Previous Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with up to 2 years of experience in tax reporting or tax-related accounting in a financial services environment.

• OR ~

• Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

Licenses/Certifications

• CPP Preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
