Field Engineer Position

The Field Engineer will be responsible for tasks associated with programming, configuring, trouble shooting, and maintaining various special systems such as Access Control, CCTV, Intrusion Detection, PA Intercom, Fire Alarm, and Audio Visual.

This position has a salary range of $36-$39 per hour depending on experience.

Job Responsibilities
  • Uphold the core values and mission of A-com Technologies.
  • Work closely with Project Manager, Field Superintendent, and Project Lead for the coordination of the technical aspects of specific projects with supervision from the Systems Engineering Manager.
  • Program, Test, and Troubleshoot various special systems such as Access Control, Intrusion Detection, CCTV, PA Intercom, Fire Alarm, and Audio-Visual.
  • Follow assigned projects through to final adjustment and commissioning of installed systems.
  • May supervise workers in installation, configuration, testing, and adjusting equipment to optimal performance.
  • Install a complete turnkey system (software and hardware).
  • Troubleshoot System, and Networking related issues with customers and coworkers either over the phone or in person.
  • Diagnose communication problems and install control devices and other components as well as troubleshoot software and hardware issues.
  • Operate systems to demonstrate processes, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
  • Make sure that installation configuration sheets are updated regularly.
  • Prepare customer-training manuals and provide customized training.
  • Responsible for overall system functionality/performance.
  • Must adhere to and enforce all health, safety, and company policies.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


Job Qualifications
  • Authorization to work in the US.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completed Trade School or 2 Year Degree in Basic Electronics.
  • Journeyman's License ES-3J AND ES-7J.
  • 3+ Years as a Licensed Journeyman.
  • CompTIA Net + Certification.
  • Must be able to pass security and background checks.
  • Ability to report to work during customary or specifically assigned work schedules required.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Able to work on other Manufacturer's Systems without formal training.


Required Skills
  • Possess hands-on experience with various special systems including Access Control, CCTV, Intrusion Detection, PA Intercom, Fire Alarm, and Audio Visual.
  • Capable of installing Access Control devices such as locking hardware, card readers, door contacts and power supplies.
  • Capable of installing Intrusion Detection devices such as motion detectors and door contacts.
  • Capable of installing CCTV devices such as cameras, servers, and workstations.
  • Capable of installing Fire Alarm Devices such as FACP, FCPS, SLC devices, and NAC devices.
  • Capable of installing other various special systems devices such as speakers, and AV control panels.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of basic networking principles.
  • System/component level troubleshooting and working knowledge of electronics and the ability to use a multi-meter.
  • Sound judgment and the demonstrated ability to act independently.
  • Ability to organize workload effectively and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrates communication and teamwork skills with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Strong communication skills; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline-oriented by communicating effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to read and understand the scope of work, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use communications software and have above average computer skills, including the full Microsoft Office Suite.
  • WPM Minimum: 45


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move up to 100lbs.
  • Ability to work on computers for long periods of time.
  • Ability to sit, talk, and hear.
  • Ability to use hands and arms for tactile purposes.
  • Vision abilities include close vision and color vision.
  • Regular climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
