Reporting to the Senior Administrative Director of Home Base, the Finance Manager is a critical position, which is the sole resource for Accounting, Budgeting, and "all things financial", including associated administration, for a $30M complex and growing organization. It provides fiscal management of 25 operating cost centers 9 sundries and 3 endowments, maintaining financial controls and accurate records and adhering to accounting policies. This position, in coordination with the Senior Manager of Research, is also responsible for a growing portfolio of research funds managed by Home Base PIs. This position plays a critical role in the continued financial stability and success of the Home Base Program.

Qualifications

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Budget and Projections

  • Plans, develops, submits, communicates, and manages budget of a $30M complex and growing organization
  • Ensures realistic, comprehensive, and accurate budgets are prepared in accordance with MGH/MGPO policies and procedures and targets
  • Maintains annual financial projections and cash flow to ensure program remains financially stable, and meets the requirements/targets of the Program, MGH and PO
  • Incorporates restructure of Program within overall budget, when strategic changes warrant


Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepares financial reporting package for delivery to finance and program leaders, including investigating and analyzing account and FTE variances, and providing detailed analysis and reconciliations of financial results
  • Provides analysis and status reports of GH sundry and PO operating funds, and resulting cash balances
  • Oversees Capital and Endowment activity
  • Works with Chief Development Officer to ensure all donations and payments made to Home Base are tracked against budgeted projections; updates and reports monthly revenue projections


Contracts/Grants

  • Manages and oversees WWP funding and financial activity for multiple clinical programs; prepares financial Biannual Report for each program; provides additional analysis and reporting, as requested
  • Contributes to preparation of $5M+ State grant budgets, providing insight to programs meeting criteria for funding, and managing allocation of funds to these programs; prepares quarterly financial report
  • Provides financial support and reporting for grants, Development proposals, and Network Development proposals


Accounting/Expenses

  • Responsible for the monthly closes of Home Base, which includes General Ledger transactions in a deadline-driven monthly close process; responsible for creating, preparing, documenting, and reviewing monthly journal entries to ensure accuracy; monitors transactions throughout close, using Vision; complies with Mass General Brigham policies and procedures
  • Assesses, develops, monitors and reports on both Program wide revenues and expenses as well as Regional Program revenues and expenses such as Home Base Florida, Arizona and Texas.
  • In addition, Manages and prepares the allocation of restricted and unrestricted funding to operating cost centers, while maintaining surplus balances
  • Oversees capital and endowment activity
  • Manages the process of payments to outside vendors, via echeck or PO, using WorkDay
  • Manages a tracking of summary PO activity for contracts, ensuring available balances for payments


HR/Personnel

  • Supports program leaders in management of HR systems; oversees payroll; processes and manages all personnel financial related transactions, including salary adjustments, and status changes
  • Ongoing analysis and planning of staffing and salary expense and FTEs; provides staffing position control, to keep within budgeted/projected targets


General

  • Key finance partner with stake holders; collaborates with Admin. Managers, Development team, and program leaders; supports Research, Contracts, Development
  • Works with discretion and maintains confidential and sensitive information
  • The Finance Manager position is one of "soup to nuts", which requires keeping everything in check by closely managing the finance function with a high level of attention and detail and accuracy, maintaining the fiscal health of the program, while balancing the requirements of Home Base, MGH, and the PO.


SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong accounting, financial, and analytical experience
  • Strong managerial, communication, and organizational skills; highly detail-oriented
  • Proficient with MGB financial systems (Vision, Hyperion, WorkDay, Excel)
  • Solid record of working with executive team providing financial strategy, analysis, and support
  • Ability to work independently


EDUCATION:

  • Accounting and Finance background
  • BA degree required; Master's degree preferred


EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years in Finance and Accounting
  • Healthcare and/or non-profit experience preferred
  • MGH/MGB experience strongly preferred


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • At least 1fte in administration and finance


FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Annual Expense Budget of $35M
  • FTE Budget of 150+


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Hybrid position
