Why does the job exist?

This position is essential to the management and oversight of the budget, reimbursements, allocations, awards to LEAs and stewardship of taxpayer money. This position is essential to ensure that the LEAs receive the funding timely and are able to provide programing that will help improve student well-being and student outcomes.

How does it get done?

The Deputy Director provides leadership and direction in implementing the finance and operations of the Community Schools and Extended Learning Bureau. The Deputy Director, Finance and Operations develops goals, allocates/manages resources, and establish policies/procedures. Implement administrative and operational systems to support effective operations. Oversees the financial activities, managing operational processes, strategic planning and decision-making. Responsible for managing the budgeting, financial analysis, internal controls, compliance, risk management, and optimizing operational efficiency. Liaison between with various departments, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure organizational goals are met effectively and resources are utilized efficiently. Develop policies, procedures, and initiatives to drive organizational growth and success. Knowledgeable on state and federal regulations and laws.

The PED Leadership and Cabinet, Students of New Mexico, LEAs, Community Based Organizations, Partners, and external stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate

Knowledgeable in accounting, finance, operations, state and federal regulations and rules, budgeting, and management. Soft skills to include the ability to communicate and liaison between other departments effectively.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
