Responsibilities

The Financial Counselor is responsible for the financial assessment of patients, determination of ability to pay, collection of deposits, negotiation of payment arrangements, and identification of funding sources for unsecured patient accounts. Ensures all insurance benefits are verified and informs patient of their finanical liability. The Financial Counselor will be the primary coordinator of Medicaid Assistance applications between the patient and the County Assistance Office. This is a position with a high level of patient contact and requires excellent customer service skills. The Financial Counselor will serve as a liaison between the family or assigned parties, business office, and County Assistance Offices. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education : Associate or bachelor's degree in business administration or health management preferred but not required

Experience: At least 3 years' experience in hospital business setting preferred

Handle with Care: Yes

BLS/HeartSaver CPR : Yes

General Working Environment : Hospital setting. Staff working in this position may be required to intervene and assist with aggressive patients. Works in a well-lighted and ventilated setting, is subject to frequent interruptions, and is involved with the patients and personnel throughout designated unit under varying conditions and circumstances. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.

Physical Requirements : Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and be able to walk and stand for long periods. Able to participate in crisis prevention intervention.
