Job Description:
- The Patient Access Financial Counselor/Authorization Specialist (PAFC) is responsible for reviewing the financial status of patients of the hospital.
- They assist patients with arranging a method of payment for services rendered including income eligibility for programs such as indigent, charity or Medicaid.
- They act as self pay collector for hospital, sending statements, appropriate messages and letters to improve collections.
- They send accounts to collections agency according to set policy.
- They act as outpatient collector for imaging, ambulatory care and day surgery procedures.
- They assist with insurance verification/authorizations and perform Patient Access Referrals and Authorizations Specialist duties in her absence.
- The important role of PAFC directly impacts the revenue cycle by accurately processing data relating to patient financials & insurance and demographic information on patients, while following unit specific policies.
- They must maintain current knowledge of payer insurance requirements.
- The PAFC may initiate the process and assess surgical and diagnostic patient information to be systematically available hospital wide.
- The PAFC meets established quality and productivity standards and interacts professionally with MD's, MD office staff, employees, outside vendors, patients, and patient representatives.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year hospital/healthcare collection experience
- 5 years hospital/healthcare collection experience preferred
- Customer relation skills.
- Medical terminology.
- Good telephone etiquette.
- Must be able to multi-task.
