Position Summary & Core Responsibilities:
The Financial Manager, School of Medicine Dean's Office plays a crucial role in managing financial processes, data analysis, and reporting within the School of Medicine (SOM). This position serves as an integral member of the Office of Finance team. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, effective in written and oral communication, proficient in data analysis and financial management, and capable of making proactive and informed decisions based on data-driven insights. This position will focus on budget oversight, reconciliations, budget to actual analysis, commitment management, reimbursement processing, student funding, financial reporting, and other financial management practices as assigned.

The Financial Manager, School of Medicine Dean's Office plays a crucial role in managing financial processes, data analysis, and reporting within the School of Medicine (SOM). This position will focus on budget oversight, reconciliations, budget to actual analysis, commitment management, reimbursement processing, student funding, financial reporting, and other financial management practices as assigned.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Budget & Spend Monitoring, Financial Analysis, and Reporting (50%):
- Manage Dean's Units budgets, tracking and forecasting revenue, operating and non-operating expenditures.
- Monitor and manage encumbrances.
- Perform monthly reconciliations and certify indexes on the Finance Dashboard.
- Review spending patterns and identify significant variances.
- Prepare reports on revenue and expenditure data for management and other ad hoc reports as needed.
- Incorporate performance and staffing metrics into financial analyses.
- Evaluate expenditures based on programmatic needs.
- Proactively seek to identify opportunities to streamline fiscal processes and create cost efficiencies wherever possible.
- Utilize Anaplan to build and track workflows related to commitments, budgeting, and budget to actual reporting.
- Maintain accurate records of commitments and financial transactions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data integrity and efficient processes.
- Collaborate with various departments and Dean's Office Finance team to process, track and report on MCVF, VETAR, and AEF reimbursements.
- Regularly communicate with departments the status of reimbursements and available balances.
- Maintain accurate records of reimbursement transactions.
- Monitor SOM facilities project allocations and expenses.
- Produce regular reports on project status and financial requirements.
- Collaborate with Dean's Office Finance team on student funding workflows and ensure accurate tracking of student-related financial transactions.
- Cross-train on all finance functions throughout the Dean's Office Finance team.
