Position Summary:

Responsible for managing and reconciling HSF and UAB General Ledger accounts, providing financial projections, and analyzing spending trends. Duties include monthly closeout procedures, processing financial documents, and approving purchases and payments. The role also supports annual budget preparation, generates financial reports, and manages commitments related to IMPACT, Chair packages, and professional development.

Under minimal supervision, manages and has significant authority for financial operations of a large complex unit requiring comprehensive knowledge of principles, procedures and practices specific to accounting, financial analysis and budgeting. Supervises departmental accounting operations and activities including approval and processing of disbursement requisitions and internal requisitions, personnel action papers, interaction with vendors, and compliance with UAB bid policy and procedures. Makes decisions regarding the reporting and use of financial resources.

Provides ongoing financial analysis of departmental accounting functions. Ensures proper accounting for all state, grant, contract and/or revenue accounts. May make decisions regarding short-term investments. Provides financial guidance to assigned staff and University accounting system. May manage revenue-producing activities. May have responsibility for effort reporting and regulatory compliance. Develops and administers budgets and financial systems, projects revenue and develops and monitors financial policies and procedures.

Develops financial statements and provides reports to department chairperson, department head, director or other senior leader(s). May supervise accounting office staff which may include hiring, training, evaluating performance, disciplinary actions and, if necessary, discharge of staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • UAB and HSF financial document processing including but not limited to budget adjustment, cost transfers, journal entries and salary adjustments.
  • Regular review, management and reconciliation of HSF and UAB General Ledger accounts, providing projections and advice on spending trends
  • Monthly UAB and HSF closeout to include journal entries and various reports including variance
  • Approval authority of UAB and HSF purchases and payments to include requisitions, payment requests, P-card and Corporate credit card management. Assist with preparation of UAB and HSF annual budgets
  • Management of commitments including IMPACT, Chair packages, Retentions, Professional Development etc. Regular report generation including but not limited to HSF Income Statement, Payroll and Days Cash. Assist with preparation of UAB and HSF annual budgets
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $77,640 - $126,170

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field and seven (7) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
