Job Summary
The Division of Hematology/Oncology and Genetic Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a highly competent, motivated and organized individual to serve as a full-time Financial Senior Manager to lead its financial team. Reporting directly to the Division Administrator, candidates for this position are expected to exhibit strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a complex organization. The Financial Senior Manager is responsible for a wide range of services to support both clinical and research faculty in both divisions. Responsibilities*
Overall management of divisional matters to include, but not be limited to oversight of divisional operating and other divisional accounts, assist in the development of the annual budget, engaged in annual P&L process, address items/questions from Division Administration, Department of Internal Medicine and faculty members, direct oversight of staff to include performing annual employee evaluations.
Oversight of pre- and post-award administration. Coordinates with all levels of management within the institution to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations regarding financial plans, acquisition activity, trended future requirements, operating forecasts and similar complex financial matters, prepares and presents reports of findings and recommendation to management. Management duties include, but not be limited to, acting as consultant to management on financial policy, procedure and application, providing functional and technical direction, performance review for annual evaluations and handling complaints and grievances and discipline when necessary.
Account management for faculty members to include account reconciliations, annual financial reports, related lab member effort changes and other items asked of the faculty member with regards to his/her financials. Develop and process effort changes for all Faculty members. This includes the analysis of protected effort, clinical time, grant restrictions, etc. Lead the preparation and presentation of financial and research related reports to division leadership. Develops, interprets and implements highly complex financial/accounting concepts and advanced techniques for financial planning and control. Provides expert advisory capability and interpretation on all levels of financial activity. Plans, coordinates and executes policy implementation applicable to the installation of improved financial operations. Provides specialized technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Directs the development and implementation of new concepts and techniques for financial information analysis.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in a financially related field with a minimum of 5-7 or more years of experience in financial management. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possesses the ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team environment interacting effectively with faculty and peers. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Desired Qualifications*
Experience in the pre- and post-award administration of federally-sponsored projects (especially NIH), and knowledge of ORSP procedures and operations. Previous experience working with a variety of other departments with the University and/or outside (specifically the Ann Arbor VA Health System).
