The New Mexico Department of Health is an executive state agency that operates public health services for the state through several divisions. The Public Health Division ensures safety net services to all New Mexicans through many programs and services. NMDOH works with multiple partners to promote health and well-being and improve health outcomes for all people in New Mexico. Each Public Health Division employee has an important role to help New Mexicans, and the financial specialist role fills a critical need for all of the Public Health Offices in the Northeast Region.
Why does the job exist?
This position provides fiscal support to the PHD Northeast Region and will be responsible for providing a high level of independence responsibility for accounts payables and procurement support for the region, including but not limited to: office supply orders, advertisements, rent of property and equipment, contracts, general services and provider agreements. This position will also assist with various fiscal requests at any time for the 100+ region staff positions. This position will provide operational support to staff in areas such as equipment maintenance, property lease management, travel and training requests and state vehicle liaison support.

The Financial Specialist Lead maintains and prepares reports regarding expenditures, prepares purchase orders, creates payment vouchers, and communicates with suppliers and vendors.

-Ability to react to multiple, changing priorities on short notice
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and financial systems.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management and/or contract management. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPPA) within sixty (60) days of employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Extended periods of sitting, standing, some bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. Travel to satellite offices, meetings, training sessions, and special events with the occasional overnight stay is required.
