Under supervision, Fire Protection Officers(FPO) monitor, and protect the Company's personnel and property; from fire-related emergencies. The Fire Protection Officer is a first responder to protect against risks to property and personnel. The FPO is a highly visible indication of the company's attitude toward the fire prevention and safety of the employees, the physical plant, visitors, and the total operation. It is therefore of the utmost importance the FPO exercise their duties with courtesy, tact, and professionalism.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates all fire apparatus, trucks, and equipment in extinguishment of all crash fires that occur on Bell Helicopter property.
  • Operates fire apparatus and/or trucks in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Will be required to wear a uniform and complete NFPA-approved personal protective ensemble to include coat, pants, hood, gloves, helmet, boots, and self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Responsible for the periodic inspection of equipment as to the need for repair, replacement, or replenishment of supplies, oil, and gasoline; maintains cleanliness of the apparatus.
  • Patrols buildings and grounds on foot or in a vehicle in order to protect occupied buildings and grounds against potential safety or fire hazards; takes action or makes recommendations to eliminate hazards.
  • Assures that fire extinguishers, fire alarms, sprinkler systems and fire hydrants are in compliance and operating condition.
  • Assists with conducting fire drills and participates in fire prevention programs.
  • Renders first aid to employees, residents, and visitors in cases of injury or illness in accordance with approved EMS protocols under the direction of the medical director.
  • Responds to all fire alarms while on assigned shift; determines whether a fire exists; attempts to extinguish fire and coordinates with SOC personnel to contact outside services (fire/ambulance)
  • Writes incident and accident reports related to responded incidents.
  • Immediately report to Supervision all incidents, safety hazards, accidents, unusual events, or circumstances observed by or reported during that officer's tour of duty.
  • Display professional conduct, a neat workstation, and a neat clean appearance at all times.
  • Will be required to carry a handheld radio and other equipment as issued by management


Position Requirements:

  • High school education or equivalent with practical military or firefighting experience or
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Science or related field.
  • Certified or certifiable with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection to meet customer requirements deemed necessary by the Company
  • Must obtain and maintain these certifications.
  • Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) through the Texas Department of State Health Services Bureau of Emergency Management or the national registry of emergency medical technicians. Must obtain and maintain these certifications.
  • Maintain a Texas Driver's license Class C to operate a company vehicle Employees hired on or after April 10, 2017, must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License Class B to drive fire trucks off campus on the public roadway.
